Summer Victory Garden Bus Tour: Explore Oakland & San Leandro's Urban Farms

What does a "victory garden" look like in 2026? On Sunday, August 2nd, Evergreen Nursery is partnering with local nonprofit Tandi Family Farms to host the Summer Victory Garden Bus Tour, a guided ride through four thriving urban farm and community garden sites across Oakland and San Leandro. Part garden tour, part food-resilience field trip, part neighborhood celebration, it's a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon if you love growing your own food or just want to see what's possible in a small backyard plot.

As your local East Bay plant nursery, Evergreen Nursery is proud to serve as basecamp for the day and to support a mission we believe in wholeheartedly: helping neighbors grow more of their own chemical-free food, right where they live.

What Is the Victory Garden Bus Tour?

Tandi Family Farms is a young, fast-growing East Bay nonprofit focused on food resilience and security. Its work centers on installing Victory Gardens across Oakland and San Leandro and teaching residents practical, hands-on skills for growing chemical-free produce in their own backyards.

Evergreen Nursery has partnered with the Tandi team for the past two years to help expand organic vegetable gardening and sustainable food production throughout our community. Hosting this year's bus tour is our way of doubling down on that partnership.

Tour Details: Date, Time & Location

Check-In & Bus Departure

The tour begins and ends at Evergreen Nursery, 350 San Leandro Blvd in San Leandro. Buses leave every 15 minutes starting at 11:15 am, so plan to arrive a few minutes early to check in and park with us for the day. The group returns to the nursery around 3:00 pm for a harvest after-party that runs until roughly 4:00 pm.

Tickets & Registration

Tickets are $10 per person and are required for everyone aged 2 and up. That small fee covers group transportation into neighborhoods with limited parking, meaning more of your ticket price goes directly toward supporting Tandi Family Farms' work. Buses tend to sell out, and additional buses open up once each one fills, so it's worth registering early.

Four Stops on the Tour

47th Ave Beloved Community Garden. A beloved Oakland community garden that shows what neighbors can grow together in a shared urban plot.

Lewis Ave Satellite Farm. One of Tandi Family Farms' satellite growing sites, where victory-garden-style food production is scaled up to serve the wider community.

Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro Garden. A hands-on look at how edible gardening gets woven into local youth programming.

Davis Street Community Center School Garden. A school garden that doubles as an outdoor classroom for the next generation of growers.

The Harvest After-Party

Once the tour wraps and everyone's back at Evergreen Nursery, the day closes out with a farm-to-table harvest after-party featuring fresh, seasonal treats grown right in the gardens you just visited. It's a relaxed way to swap notes with fellow garden lovers and meet some of the farmers and growers behind the movement.

How to Reserve Your Seat

Spaces fill up quickly. Scan the QR code on the event poster in-store, or head straight to Eventbrite to lock in your tickets before buses sell out.
